Samantha and Scarborough Fair
“How many people can say that they have an obsession with the sport they take part in? Probably most professional athletes, because why else would you subject yourself to hours of training, give up what your friends call a social life to spend your weekends having some stranger judge you? Now if I sketched a picture of my life it would look much like that. I have an obsession, mine is with riding.
My name is Samantha Joubert and I am a dressage addict. I am the luckiest woman in the world. I have an amazing South African Warmblood named Scarborough Fair and we are sponsored by MVW.”
“Most children like horses and ponies for a brief phase in their lives and they then grow out of it. I on the other hand, have yet to outgrow that phase. I turned 27 in 2019 and that means I have been obsessed with horses for no less than ¾ of my life. It all started when my mother thought it was a good idea to put her 3 year old on the back of a miniature horse in her own custom made sheepskin saddle. My mom would then lead me around on these and that kept me relatively happy. For the next 5 or 6 years the occasional pony ride was as far as my riding would go, until I figured out that I could get actual riding lessons!”
We’ll share more of Sam’s story that got a 6 year old girl who was just starting riding lessons, to the 2019 SA Dressage Champs.
